EC 07: Freezer Cabinet Sensor Fault

EC 07 is stored when the freezer compartment sensor on a later 600 Series goes open, shorted or erratic. The display may show EE where the freezer temperature should be, with SERVICE flashing. Sub-Zero Repair Redmond tests the sensor and the wiring back to the control board; call (425) 905-2822.

Check first
  • The freezer readout: EE in place of a temperature, with SERVICE flashing, is this sensor's fault showing live.
  • Whether EC 40 is in memory as well; say so when you call.
  • Frozen food checked with a separate thermometer while the freezer readout cannot be relied on.
Needs a technician
  • Continuity and connections from the freezer compartment sensor to the control board.
  • The sensor's resistance measured at 32°F against Sub-Zero's specified range, and a new sensor fitted if it is out.
  • Memory cleared after the repair with the bell key, so a fresh code is easy to spot.

What the freezer sensor tells the control

On a later 600 Series the freezer compartment sensor is how the control knows the temperature of the air around the frozen food. When that reading drops out or jumps about, the control has nothing reliable to steer by and records EC 07.

What you may see first

Before anyone opens Diagnostic Mode, the freezer side of the display may read EE instead of a number while SERVICE flashes. Sub-Zero’s manual links that readout to the same sensor: disconnected, shorted or misread.

The repair

The technician checks the wiring run to the board, then the sensor’s resistance, and replaces only what fails.

Why does EC 07 get fixed before EC 40?
