Sub-Zero 532 Side-by-Side
The Sub-Zero 532 is the wide 500 Series side-by-side, made for a 47 1/2 inch opening: freezer on the left, refrigerator on the right, a pull-out ice drawer, and lit dials where later units have a display. Identify it
- Two doors side by side in a 47 1/2 inch opening, the narrower door on the left for the freezer.
- Lit dials numbered 1 to 10 inside the cabinet and no display on the doors or the grille.
- A pull-out ice drawer in the freezer, with the ice maker switch on the front of the freezer control panel.
- 532 on the plate inside the freezer door, near the top hinge.

Reading the two dials
The refrigerator dial is on the back wall near the top right. The freezer dial is on the panel just above the ice drawer: pull the drawer out and it is on the left side of that panel. Both run from 1, the warmest, to 10, the coldest, and should read where they were left before anything else is blamed.
Faults on a 532, found without codes
One side warm, the other fine. The 532 runs a compressor for each side, so a warm refrigerator next to a hard-frozen freezer is traced on the refrigerator side alone, and the other way round.
No ice. The ice maker has its own switch on the freezer control panel, and it is the first thing checked, followed by the water shut-off feeding the unit. Only then is the fill valve or the ice maker itself tested.
Freezer frosting. The freezer defrosts on a timer. Frost that keeps building on the back wall points at the timer, the heater or the drain, which all sit inside the cabinet.
Doors drifting open. Both doors have spring-loaded closers, and the top hinges adjust with Allen screws. A door that no longer pulls itself shut is usually a closer or hinge setting, not a gasket.
Warm everywhere. The condenser and the fan that cools the compressor area are behind the top grille, and a blocked coil or a stalled fan takes both sides with it.
For the cabinetmaker
The doors open to 130 degrees. Where an island or a wall return sits close, Sub-Zero offered a stop kit that holds them near 90. Two units installed side by side need a filler strip between them, added to the opening width.
