EC 50: Excessive Refrigerator Compressor Run

EC 50 is stored when the refrigerator compressor on a later 600 Series built-in keeps running well beyond a normal cycle. Means	The refrigerator compressor stayed on longer than the control accepts for holding the fresh-food side at its setting, and the event went into memory.
Check first	The refrigerator door swings shut and seals, with no jar, bin or shelf edge stopping it short. The condenser behind the top grille, looked at with the unit switched off at the control panel, is free of lint. The refrigerator light goes dark when its door switch is pressed in.
Needs a technician	Any EC 05 or EC 06 in memory dealt with before EC 50 itself. Condenser fan and refrigerator evaporator fan checked for power, a tight blade and a clear path. Refrigerator compartment sensor measured, then the sealed system checked for a leak, a restriction or a tired compressor.

Two compressors, two codes

A combination 600 Series cools each side with its own compressor. EC 40 belongs to the freezer; EC 50 is the refrigerator’s, so the search stays on the fresh-food side plus the condenser fan behind the grille, which runs whenever either compressor does.

The service manual runs from quick checks to costly ones: a stored sensor code, then the refrigerator door, the condenser, the condenser fan, the evaporator fan, the compartment sensor and the light switch. Only after those does the list reach the sealed system.
