The Flashing SERVICE Indicator

A flashing SERVICE light on a Sub-Zero 600 Series means the control saw a temperature or ice maker problem, or the condenser needs cleaning. Look at the condenser first. If it is clean and the light keeps flashing, call Sub-Zero Repair Redmond on (425) 905-2822 and read us the rest of the display.

What it pairs with

SERVICE rarely flashes alone for long. The rest of the display usually says where to look:

ICE and SERVICE together. The control held the ice maker’s water valve open for more than fifteen seconds. A jammed cube, an ice maker out of level or low water pressure are the usual reasons.
EE in place of a temperature. The sensor for that compartment has gone open or shorted, or its wiring has.
A warm compartment. A real temperature problem: airflow, a fan, the defrost circuit or the sealed system.
Normal temperatures, SERVICE alone. Sub-Zero’s manuals point at the refrigerator evaporator sensor.

Early and later controls

On a 600 Series built before serial number 1810000 the condenser warning reads VACUUM CONDENSER instead, and no codes are stored. On the later control a technician can pull stored codes from the keys, which is why the model and serial off the tag matter before the visit.

Clearing it

Once the fault is repaired, a flashing SERVICE light clears when the unit is switched off and on again at the control panel.
