Where the settings live

The 561 shares its control layout with the wider 532 and 542. The refrigerator dial is on the back wall, top right. The freezer dial is on the panel over the ice drawer, reached by sliding the drawer out, and the ice maker switch sits on the front of that same panel. A switch knocked off while the drawer was being emptied is ruled out before any part is tested.

What goes wrong, and how it is found

With no codes, the diagnosis runs on readings. A thermometer goes in each side and is compared with the dial setting; then the machinery behind the top grille is checked with the unit running. Each side has its own compressor, served by one fan that cools the compressor area, so the question is always which side is failing and whether the fault is inside the cabinet or behind the grille.

Freezer frost that keeps coming back points at the timed defrost. A refrigerator that holds temperature but loses its light may simply have had a door left open; the guide says the lights can shut off to protect parts, and come back after the doors have been closed for fifteen to thirty minutes.

Narrow doors, tight kitchens

Because both doors are narrow, the 561 fits kitchens where a wider side-by-side would hit a wall return or an island. That same narrowness makes panel thickness and handle choice matter: with a raised panel, Sub-Zero notes the wood behind the handle may have to be routed out for finger room.
